James Byrne – New York City, is nationally recognized for film and video art works with dance. Byrne has been presented on the PBS award-winning show, “Alive From Off Center,” WNET in New York City and WGBH in Boston. Byrne has taught at New Jersey State College. His video work with dance artists including Eiko and Koma and Susan Hadley, others. Byrne is currently working as an independent film maker.
Byrne was on the team of artists and others who participated in a residency in southern Utah, a Maida Withers Dance Construction Company project. Artists were housed in the winter home of the Hardy Redd in Blanding, Utah. Byrne was videographer for the earth site project by Withers in the Four Corners Area in 1988. He was using professional grade cameras. Footage from the summer residency was included in several earth works created by Maida Withers for Dance Construction Company. James Byrne preferred NOT to be involved in editing for various projects resulting from the residency. His camera work is of the highest quality and represents a significant contribution to Maida and the Dance Construction Company earth related works related to the EARTH.
