(2012) May 5  Tzveta Kassabova, distinguished artist and member of Maida Withers Dance Construction Company, performs choreography from her solo from the stage work, Naked Truth* (see below).  Tzveta’s solo is performed with a projected film Installation of  two dance film shorts:  Tzveta I and Tzvetz II.  The two film shorts were created  with the same  original film footage of Tzveta from Naked Truth.  The films presented side by side on stage are part of Maida Withers Dance Portraits on Screen Series: TZVETA I (Edited by Anthony Gongora) and TZVETA II (Edited by Ayo Okunseinde). Both films are based on Tzveta’s  television studio improvisations on Naked Truth.  Original music for Naked Truth was composed and performed live by electronic musician/composer, Steve Hilmy.

Tzveta’s performance was part of the evening-length concert, Involuntary Encounters that took place in  Dorothy Betts Marvin Center, Washington, DC.  Involuntary Encounters was an evening length concert of diverse dances by dance artists, friends and former dancers with MWDCCo from DC and New York City.  Music for Naked Truth featured musician/composers, John Driscoll and Steve Hilmy.  See Involuntary Encounters web page for more information.

*Naked Truth is a trio created by Maida Withers with three dancers (Tzveta Kassabova, Giselle Ruzany, and Anthony Gongora). The solo for Tzveta became part of Withers’ Dance Portraits on Screen where the essence of the dancer (style, physicality, emotion) is the subject for dance.  The TZVETA films further explore aspects of the performing artist as subject. Two filmmakers, each, created a film short from the same footage.

Video documentation presented here is part of the  IN VOLUNTARY ENCOUNTERS event at  Dorothy Betts Marvin Theatre, May 5, 2012, Washington, DC.  Dance artist who worked with or continue to work with Withers from New York City and Washington, DC  joined in an evening titled Involuntary Encounters.  Video documentation of this May 5 performance was by Sarah Snyder.
