NEA Established

1965 – The National Endowment for the Arts was established by Congress in 1965 as an independent agency of the federal government.

This act was the beginning of a national consciousness about the place of art in the American society.  Funding in the early 1960s and forward has change the landscape both for artists and Americans.  Dance was acknowledged as a term in the American vocabulary.
