Rogelio Maxwell

Multimedia artist and musician, Rogelio Maxwell was born in Panama City and grew up in Brooklyn, NY. Moving to D.C. on a whim in 1974 at age 20, Maxwell’s art-making and interest in the local gallery scene eventually led to his taking over the abandoned Hard Art Gallery at 1407 15th Street NW in 1975.  Rogelio, a gifted musician, flute and cello, who performed and toured with Maida Withers and the Dance Construction Company.  Rogelio was generous with his talent, infusing brilliance to all collaborations with Maida and the dancers.

1984 – Smithsonian Institution,  American History Museum “Smithsonian Salutes Washington Dance”, Washington, DC: Live cello and flute accompaniment to Maida Withers and the Dance Construction Company.
Date TBD:  Families Are Forever; National Theater, Washington, DC (2nd floor)

1983 – March –  Tour:  Maida Withers Dance Construction Company, at Dancers’ Collective Theater in Atlanta, GA; Temple University in Philadelphia, PA; and Joy of Motion Dance Umbrella in Boston, MA: Performed cello composition and film soundtrack live in accompaniment to modern dance company on tour.

1983 June – Western Plaza, “Wet and Wonderful in Washington, DC: Cello performance in collaboration with Maida Withers, Choreographer and John Bailey, visual artist; DCCo and Community Dancers.
