Jim Levy
Music Composer; Keyboard
James (Jim) Levy is a pianist, teacher and composer. As a jazz pianist, he has been heard nationally on National Public Radio’s Jazz set and in D.C. clubs since the early 80s. His compositions for choir have been performed around the Washington D.C. area including the National Cathedral. His title music for “To the Moon and Beyond” was heard on most of the nation’s PBS affiliates. On the faculty of the George Washington University, Jim is responsible for beginning the Music Department’s Jazz Studies program. Jim collaborated with Maida by playing for her dance technique and dance improvisation classes at George Washington University.
Works: Jim performed on many occasions with Maida and the Dance Construction Company on large and small projects: James and his associates were featured musicians on the evening length production of Seeing Jazz Move at the Smithsonian Interantional Museum; TILT by mostly men… a spirited contest between persons on the Milleniel Stage and an Out of Doors Event, End Game on the Kennedy Center Balcony (2005);
