Claudette Lopez
Claudette Lopez (costume designer) is a textile artist, fashion designer, and the director of Libellule, Inc., an exciting line of hand painted textiles and custom-made clothing and accessories. Her training in London, Paris and at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York, combined with her own Jamaican/Chinese/Indian background has created a unique aesthetic. She is one of Washington’s leading designers known for a unique style, which has been compared to Picasso and Matisse and shows the strong influence of many cultures. Lopez’s critically acclaimed work has been sold at the Galleria of Nordstrom, the Smithsonian Institute, as well as the Pret-a-Porter, Paris and the IGEDO, Dusseldorf under the aegis of the Jamaican government, to name a few. In 1995 she received the Pret-a-Porter Design Award for the African, Caribbean and Pacific Regions. This season, Libellule, Inc. unveiled an exciting new line of one-of-a-kind hand painted shawls, scarves, and upholstering fabric in silk, wool and linen.
