Catherine Cacho
Dance Works (view listing under Collaborations to the right):
Catherine (Cat) was one of nine George Washington University dance students invited to perform in Utah * Spirit Place * Spirit Planet * Tukuhnikivatz. Choreography for Utah * Tukuhnikivatz is constructed in such a way as to include five to eight additional dancers including: wisdom/stiltwalkers (two), painted women/water (three), noble warrior (one), innocence/goon (one), and petroglyph/holy ghost (one). Catherine was one of two wisdom/stiltwalkers draped in a long black gown and wearing a mask. Stiltwalkers represented one of the amazing drawings on the Great Gallery Wall. Scale was an important aspect of the Utah Project.
Catherine, a powerful dancer, was raised dancing as a member of the family of Cacho Dancers and Drummers, the earliest dance company in Washington, DC to feature African dances and drumming in contemporary performances. Andrew Cacho, the founder, assisted in training DCCO dancers to perform on stilts used in the Utah project but also in Laser Dance where the dancers walked on stilts but also manipulated the Laser Beams.
