Anton Ovchinnikov, Kyiv, Ukraine:   performer, choreographer, national dance innovator and organizer of the annual international dance festival Zelyonka FEST in Kiev, Ukraine and Ukraine Contemporary Dance Platform. Black O!Range Dance Theater, established by Ovchinnikov in 2008, is recognized as one of the most distinctive and original dance  projects in Ukraine.  This independent dance production company, continues to be the vanguard of the Ukrainian dance scene. In 2016/2017 Ovchinnikov was selected to participate in the CEC Artslink residence in the USA in New Orleans.  The Ukrainian Contemporary Dance Platform managed by Anton Ovchinnikov supports young Ukrainian choreographers, integrates contemporary dance into the modern cultural life of Ukraine, and is a national center of contemporary dance.

Born in 1971 in Kyiv
1989-1991 served in the Soviet Army
Graduated from Kyiv National University of Culture and Arts, MA. He is writing a PhD thesis in Lviv National University.
From 1994 to 1999 danced in a professional dance company “Hollywood Ballet” (Kyiv)
Since 1995 Ovchinnikov participated in different educational dance projects and festivals all over the Europe and in Post-Soviet countries.
In 2003 he graduated from Kiev National University of Culture and Arts (MA Stage director & Choreographer).
In 2008 he founded the dance company Black O!Range Dance Theatre which took part in all the major dance festivals in Ukraine, as well as some international festivals in Europe. From 2008 till 2022 created more than 30 solo and group performances in Ukraine and abroad.
Since 2009 till 2016 he taught contemporary dance technique and dance composition in Kyiv National University of Culture and Arts.
In 2010 he established the Zelyonka Fest Contemporary Dance Festival in Kyiv. Since then he is an artistic and program director of the festival.
Since 2015 – the President of NGO UA “Contemporary Dance Platform”. In 2015 Ovchinnikov cofounded All-Ukrainian Association “Contemporary Dance Platform”. Since then he is the President of the institution. Main objectives of the Association are to support young Ukrainian choreographers, integrate contemporary dance into the modern cultural life of Ukraine and establish the national center of contemporary dance.

Anton Ovchinnikov – multidisciplinary artist. He works as choreographer, performer, composer, lecturer, and organizer of the annual international dance festival Zelyonka Space UP in Kyiv.
In 2016-2021 Anton Ovchinnikov presented a few solo performances and created four multidisciplinary projects. In 2017 he was the fellow of CEC Artslink Residency in the USA.
Since 2018 Anton Ovchinnikov is the member of the expert panel of Ukrainian Cultural Foundation.

Anton met Maida in Moscow, Russia during a summer dance workshop with TsEKh, the prominent post-modern organization in Russia. Anton participated in Maida’s dance improvisation workshop.
In 2018 Anton invited Maida to co-create a two-part site specific work with 18 Ukrainian dancers.   The resulting work, 60 moves with Future Gaze, was presented at the National Exhibition Center, in honor of the 60th Anniversary Gala Celebration of the Center.

January 20, 2019, Anton performed a political work, RedWhiteBlueBlack&Orange – The Art and Dance of Resistance, with Maida Withers and Erica Rebollar, at the Museum of Political Art in Washington, DC.   That work toured to Brazil to perform as part of the renowned street festival, Visões Urbanas, São Paulo.  In 2023, Anton performed at the GALA Celebration for LEGACY: 50 years of Dance on the Edge with MWDCCo and also presented Duel/Solo, his brilliant trio with a man, a chair and a saw.  Anton was the producer of PAM’YATATY, an historic project that commissioned four Ukraine female choreographers to create and perform site specific solo dance performance projects during the conflict resuluting from the invasion of Russia in Ukraine (2022-2025) – Anton and Maida were Curators for the project.   See https://maidadance.com/about/international-tours/
