Dan Joyce (dancer) received his BFA degree in dance from the North Carolina School of the Arts and his MFA from George Mason University. He began his professional career with the Maryland Dance Theater and spent four years with Concert Dance Company of Boston. In 1988, Dan joined the Mark Morris Dance Group, at that time based in Brussels, Belgium. He performed in over thirty works created by Mark Morris, including concert dance pieces, opera productions and film projects. During his ten years with the company, he served as a rehearsal director for several repertory pieces, taught numerous master classes across the United States and in Great Britain, and was Mr. Morris’s assistant for the film version of Dido and Aeneas.
Since leaving the Group in 1998, Dan has been a faculty member at George Mason University in Fairfax, VA. He has created six works for the GMU Dance Company and served as rehearsal director for numerous guest artist pieces. Dan has choreographed five musicals by Mary Hall Surface and David Maddox, produced by the Theater of the First Amendment.
