2010 – Hekuras – Spirits of the Rainforest was first created in São Paulo, Brazil in 2002 with professional contemporary Brazilian dancers during a three-week residency of Maida with Tania Fraga, creator of extraordinary computer art and projected virtual Rainforests (cyberworlds). This version presented in Washington, DC  maintained some thematic movement materials, the music, and several of the virtual worlds  by Tania Fraga from the residency in Brazil.   This performance is a shortened version of the original work.  Hekuras – Spirits of the Rainforest (USA) was performed by six GW dancers for DanceWorks performance April 15 to 17, 2010  in Dorothy Betts Marvin Theater in downtown Washington, DC.  Hekuras – Spirits of the Rainforest was a commission for Tania Fraga to participate with a project in an international congress in Africa.  The Brazilian government plan for participation was cancelled.  Consequently Hekuras, the performance work, remained a work-in-progress at that time.

(2010) George Washington University Department of Theater and Dance Presents “Spring DanceWorks,” April 15-17 (see program).  The work, Hekuras – Spirits of the Rainforest, was restaged in the USA by Maida Withers, choreographer and Professor at George Washington University. Hekuras features the projection of spectacular virtual worlds  related to the Brazilian Rainforest created by Tania Fraga, Brazil.

DanceWorks performance includes choreography by Guest Artists, Faculty and Student Choreographers.  Withers auditioned and cast GW dancers for performing the work, Hekuras (Spirit of the Rainforest), restaging the work created with professional dancers in Brazil in 2002.GW's Department of Theatre and Dance Presents "Spring DanceWorks," April 15-17 Production Features Internationally Acclaimed Guest Artists, Faculty and Student ChoreographersAqua BOTO / Cyberworld
