Prologue: Cowboys and Indians Play is a solo performance of dance and spoken text written and performed by  Maida Withers – her view of the west as a cowgirl and as the great granddaughter of pioneering settlers in Utah.  Prologue presents the wit that underlies many of Withers’ works – a combination of hopefulness and cynicism about humans and the earth.

*Prologue: Cowboys and Indians Play was performed at National Theatre, Brasilia, Brazil, date TBD.   Artists in Brasilia were teaching in public schools – integrating consciousness of the art through art projects, including dance.  School children created banners and other ideas and projects related to the upcoming Eco ’92 global environment conference in Rio de Janeiro.

Note:  Maida performed in summer plays at Purdue University where she was a professor of  dance.  Her works often demand aspects of acting by dance performers.  Her dances sometimes reference “story” elements as well as developing characters (of sorts).
