Kelly Roth, founder of the Festival in the Desert and former student/friend, invited Maida Withers to show a film at the Festival in the Desert in July 31, 2010. In 2020, the Festival was online/virtual due to the Corona Virus pandemic. Sadly, Kelly Roth passed away on February 19, 2021 at age of 67.  Maida’s film selected for showing by Kelly Roth, was Thresholds Crossed – Abu Ghrab (5:31) shot in the Solovky Island Gulag by the White Sea in Russia – one of the first, or the first Soviet Era Gulag experiment (see below).
In 2020, Maida was interviewed online for the library in Las Vegas with the support of Jody Caley.

Maida performed at the festival in Las Vegas in 2010 with collaborators Steve Hilmy and Ayo Okunseinde. At that time, Maida was honored to receive the “DAFFY” Award, July 31st, 2010, “in recognition of a lifetime spent in the service of dance as an art form.” Maida and Kelly met through the Alwin Nikolais Company and an important intersection at Brigham Young University, Provo, Utah. I deeply appreciate the creativity and stamina of Kelly Roth.
