Nomad Dancer – FILM Short (3:15)
2007 – (3:15 min) (09/04/2007) a narrated video short by Maida about life and her dances around the issues of “live art,” excerpts of 6 site-specific projects: Utah Spirit-Place, Spirit-Planet, Tukuhnikivatz; Halda a mound of waste; Hekuras; White Mansions.
For Nomad Dancer, original recorded music was written and performed by Ana Ruth Bermudas, cello. This simple statement was created to show Maida’s restlessness (thus her nomadic nature) and her pleasure in working in both theatrical and non-theatrical spaces. Withers has always been interested in how one tells a meaningful story blending voice/image/aesthetics. This short is an example of low technology applied to creating commentary about an artistic point of view made to share with students in Trends in Performance Art, a course Withers developed and taught at George Washington University for many years. Recorded music was created and performed by Ruth Ann Bermudas, cello, collaborator with MWDCCo.
